While at the beach you may want to do a little more than lounge in the sun or play in the waves. There are many types of games that can be played on the beach. Here are a few to try out during your next vacation in Myrtle Beach!
Ladder Ball aka Ladder Golf: This game will require some equipment. These sets generally run from $20 to $60 and include two “ladders” that you assemble and two sets of bolas, three for each team. Or, if you are crafty you could even make your own. There are different styles of playing this game, but essentially each team member gets a chance to throw the bolas at the ladder opposing them and points are figured based on which rung it wraps around.
Corn Hole: Also requiring some equipment, Corn Hole is a popular game at the beach and at some local bars as well. You can build your own, purchase a sturdy set or buy a foldable one that is easy to transport. For this you will need two boards that each have one hole in them, and set them down spaced apart from each other. The boards sit on an angle and team members throw bean bags to the opposing board, with more points being awarded for bags that land in the hole and less points for those that land on the board. There are also variations in the playing and scoring of this game, so pick which rules you want to go by and start throwing!
Soccer: While you cannot bring a full game of soccer onto the beach, if you are visiting during the off-season, you will find that there are some places on the beach that are empty enough to kick a ball around on. Pick a flat area of the sand and draw lines to show goals. Feel free to make up your own rules and have fun!
Frisbee Throw: Perfect for days that are not windy, playing a game of Frisbee on the beach can be fun. Plus, you can play with one simple piece of equipment and not worry about lugging additional items to the beach.
Bocce Ball: Bocce Ball is a fun traditional game. You can purchase sets that are meant for lawn or beach play that often contain eight balls and also sometimes include a carrying case. In this game there are four pairs of balls, each pair a different color. First, a jack is thrown far from the players. Then, the first player throws out one of the balls, trying to get it as close to the jack as possible. Play continues and score is determined based on ball distance from the jack.
These are just a few games you can enjoy on the beach. Have fun and be creative; you can even make up your own games!
